Ivey Poker Gains Momentum

The man behind the site

phil iveyIf you are a poker fan, it’s impossible not to have heard of Phil Ivey. He is a professional poker player, and one of the most prolific players at that. For a long while, he was leading the board on total career earnings, only to be surpassed by Daniel Negreanu in recent times. Ivey’s notoriety is extremely wide spread, and he has won a ton of tournaments, the biggest and most famous of which being the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour. The former he won eight times, and the latter only once, despite being in the WPT final tables nine times. And these stats weren’t achieved by luck, as Phil Ivey is widely regarded as the best poker player in the world today.

Ivey and Full Tilt Poker

In the early days of Full Tilt Poker, Ivey was one of the main men behind the scene. He is credited as being a part of the original design team, and for years on end he was the main poster boy for the online poker room. There were many events and competitions that put Ivey against the best poker players in the world, and you couldn’t go anywhere on Full Tilt’s site without seeing his face. However, things turned south in 2011 when Ivey filed a lawsuit against Full Tilt Poker for breaching his contract. Just after Ivey’s lawsuit went public in May, Full Tilt went under in June and Ivey withdrew his suit later that same month.

All in all, taking all the pros and cons into consideration, I don’t think that Phil Ivey had it too bad on the site, seeing that he won more than $16 million on Full Tilt between 2007 and 2010.

Ivey Poker

Using the notoriety that he won in his years of playing professional poker and online poker, Phil Ivey entered the market with his own brand, Ivey Poker. IveyPoker.com is not an online poker site, but rather it is the place where online poker beginners and online poker pros can meet up. Basically, we’re talking about a Training Site, but not just any ordinary training site, as apart from the founder and owner, Phil Ivey, we can see a lot of really famous names on the list of trainers.

There are currently 32 pro poker players on Ivey’s site, and most of them are accomplished pro poker players who are usually seen in many a tournament’s final table. To give you just a couple of names, we’re talking about players like Jennifer Harman, Patrik Antonius, Aaron Jones, Andrew Lichtenberger, Daniel Shak or Matt Giannetti. And Ivey himself joins the group of trainers as well.

The word around the block

With Ivey’s name being one of the most notorious ones in online poker, it was expected that the launch of his site would bring about a lot of attention. When it was first announced that the poker pro is launching a site called IveyPoker.com, most believed that it was an online poker site, and many were skeptic about its success, even saying that they wouldn’t even try it out and they’d rather go back to Full Tilt Poker instead.

But once things started to get clearer, many poker fans changed their minds, and as far as I’ve seen in poker forums and poker fans’ opinions in general, the site seems to be a good idea, so we’re going to see a lot more attention going to it in the future as well.
