Game Over at the WPT Malta and Borgata

The two tournaments ended after a great show

The Malta tournament was won by Matt Giannetti

The online poker industry is based on various offers and promotions, as well as the best poker bonus codes, and it generally divides online poker players into two categories: the ones that chase the newest and best offers, hopping from one site to another, and the ones that stay loyal to one company, trusting in them with all of their online poker games.

But when it comes to major tournament poker, people aren’t divided: they’re all interested in what’s happening at the top, with their favorite players on the line.

And speaking of major events, two of the best poker tournaments have just ended, crowning their winners over the past few days. Both of them were held under the World Poker Tour brand. One of them took place in Malta, while the other just ended in Borgata. While the Maltese tournament was rather small, with a “modest” $250k prize, the Borgata tourney’s prize was close to four times as much.

First things first, the Malta tournament. It managed to gather some of the largest names in the business, and 240 players in total. However, in the end, just 8 players made it to the final table, and they were taken out by one of the best poker players of the moment – but more on him, when we reach the top of the leaderboard.

First to exit the tournament from the final table was Mats Karlson, who only got $23k for his trouble. Next to go was Christofer Williamson, who got $31.4k, followed by Fabien Sartoris ($42k), Tristan Clemencon ($54k) and Simon Trumper ($72k). Filippo Bianchini ended up third, and he was the first to break the $100,000 barrier, which also led the game into the Heads Up stage.

Cecilia Pescaglini succumbed, winning $159,412 from the tournament, and the grand prize went to Matt Giannetti, none other than one of the November Nine players. Giannetti won $273,000 from the tournament, which might seem like a lot, but it pales compared to what Giannetti stands to win in just over a month.

Over at the Borgata tournament, the stakes were a lot higher, and there were only 6 players in the final table: Ricky Hale, Darren Elias, Fred Goldberg, Daniel Buzgon, Jin Hwang, and the grand prize winner, Bobby Oboodi. Oboodi went home with a WPT bracelet, and $922,441 more to his name.
