EPT Berlin Comes To A Close
April 30, 2013
Pidun and Benger get the trophies
The European Poker Tour finished another successful stop in Berlin which saw some pretty large fields of players taking a seat at the tables. The two events that drew in the crowds were the High Roller and of course, the Main Event. Some of the biggest names in the industry came to get a shot at the bragging rights and the large sums of money at play but at the end of the day, both events were won by less famous players, if we can still call them that. The best poker news makes sure that you stay up to date with the results of big events from around the world.
Daniel Pidun wins EPT Berlin Season 9 Main Event
Pidun owns a mobile phone parts business where he spends most of his time but once he made it to the final table of the Main Event, he was unstoppable. It only took him six hours to make short work of his opponents and take home the title. He got a nice stack of chips early on and then just dominated the table to make sure that his ninth finish two years ago will be overshadowed by his performance this year.
Considering the fact that he only takes one week off from work to play poker in the most prestigious event Germany has to offer, Pidun shocked the world with his win. Not only did he get the bragging rights and the trophy but he also got a nice sum of money that will surely help him with his business – €880,000.
Since the penultimate day of the event lasted a very long time, the blinds were pretty big going into the final table which meant that every mistake would be very costly. The heads up match was between Pidun and Robert Haigh, the most experienced player at the final table. Pidun had the bigger stack and when it all came down to it, his 9-8 suited managed to hold up against A-K after an 8 hit the board and the event was over.

Griffin Benger wins EPT Berlin Season 9 High Roller
While the final table of the Main Event didn’t have a lot of big names, the same cannot be said about the High Roller tournament. Aaron Lim, James Mitchell, Griffin Benger and Max Lykov are just some of the players that made it to the final day which had a very difficult table.
Benger won the largest prize of his career and it all happened on his birthday which is most likely the wish he made while blowing up the candles. He is a member of Team Ivey for the new site in which Phil Ivey and a bunch of poker pros are looking to improve the online poker community by teaching amateurs the right way to play the game through videos and tutorials. The heads up was against Aaron Lim, who recently won a bracelet in the 2013 WSOP-Asia Pacific and the trophy for the APPT Seoul Main Event. Benger had a large chip advantage and although Lim doubled up early, he was always far behind. As his stack was getting smaller and smaller, Lim shoved all-in with K-2 and Benger made the call with Q-J. The flop came Q-T-A which meant that Lim only had three more outs which he didn’t get as a King came on the turn to give Benger a straight for the title and the €429,000 first place prize.
After making the switch from Counter-Strike to poker, Benger became famous for being the best multi-table tournament player and now he proved that he also has what it takes to win in live events.
